Valuable players like you give animals like Bernie a chance for a new start.
Bernie the bulldog puppy had been badly mistreated by his previous owner. But thankfully, when a member of the public noticed, he reported the abuse to us – we were so fortunate to get the call when we did. The Police seized Bernie and passed him into RSPCA care. We then began the long rehabilitation process, before rehoming him to a loving family. We’re so grateful to our kind supporters who stand up for animals in need. It’s people like you who help us to fight cruelty and neglect. Thank you for Playing the Big Animal Lottery.
If you are one of our lucky winners you don’t need to claim your prize as we will post your cheque straight to you. Any chances purchased after 24th October, will be automatically entered into the next available Superdraw.
“I’m so happy Bernie’s gone to a forever home
where he’ll get the life he deserves.”

How we helped them, with your support
How our staff transformed him
Bernie was limping, had bloodshot eyes and some of his skin was inflamed and badly bruised. We kept him safe in our centre and treated him while he recovered, before moving him into foster care. Your weekly lottery lines can pay for treatment and rehabilitation for animals like Bernie.
Bernie’s recovery journey
Final days
While his bones healed and after we treated some skin and ear conditions he had, we decided to move him into a foster home. We thought one-to-one, round the clock care would be better for him. Bernie found his favourite spot on the sofa and quickly formed a strong bond with his foster family. Here, his playful side came out and he became the pup he wasn't allowed to be before.
Bernie’s now living the life all animals deserve In a new home
Unsurprisingly, Bernie had a lot of adoption applications. But when we found the right family for him, their connection was instant. According to his new owners, Bernie’s very affectionate, loves a fuss and has no sense of personal space.
His ongoing healing
Bernie still shows some signs of his trauma, and while he’s friendly with most people, he can be a little uncomfortable around men he doesn't know. In spite of this, we’re happy with Bernie’s progress and we’re grateful for your support. Thank you for joining the rescue.
